14 Communists Detained in Chiapas While Demanding Justice for Slain 13-Yr-Old Comrade

The Mexican government has been accused of once again violating the human rights of its citizens after assaulting and arbitrarily detaining 14 social movement organizers and Marxist-Leninist militants Thursday in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of the state of Chiapas.

The brutal detention comes as members of the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, EAAF, are investigating the brutal extrajudicial killing of 13-year-old Humberto Morales Santiz, a young member of the National Front for the Struggle for Socialism, FNLS, who was murdered February 28 in Chiapas.

The detainees, who were comprised of militants from the FNLS along with Indigenous human rights monitors and others, were attacked with tear gas, beaten and arrested by state security forces as they distributed fliers near the Tuxtla Gutierrez-Chiapa de Corzo federal highway booth.

The detainees have been named as Roberto Mendoza, Francisco Hernandez, Adriana Flores, Ollin Amaro, Angelina Lopez Gomez, Leticia Gomez Lopez, Hermelindo Lopez Gomez, David Francisco Garcia Mota, Sergio Mar Perez Santiago, Gumersindo Bustos, Jacob Hernandez, Manuel Gomez, Sergio Rodriguez and Mercedes Perez Perez. Their whereabouts are currently unknown.

El gobierno mexicano ha sido acusado de violar nuevamente los derechos humanos de sus ciudadanos después de agredir y detener arbitrariamente a 14 organizadores de movimientos sociales y militantes marxistas-leninistas el jueves en la ciudad de Tuxtla Gutiérrez, capital del estado de Chiapas.

La brutal detención se produce cuando miembros del Equipo Argentino de Antropología Forense EAAF están investigando el brutal asesinato extrajudicial de Humberto Morales Santiz, de 13 años, un joven miembro del Frente Nacional para la Lucha por el Socialismo, FNLS, asesinado en febrero 28 en Chiapas.

Los detenidos, que estaban compuestos por militantes de la FNLS junto con monitores indígenas de derechos humanos y otros, fueron atacados con gases lacrimógenos, golpeados y arrestados por las fuerzas de seguridad estatales mientras distribuían volantes cerca de la cabina de la carretera federal Tuxtla Gutiérrez-Chiapa de Corzo.

Los detenidos han sido nombrados Roberto Mendoza, Francisco Hernández, Adriana Flores, Ollín Amaro, Angelina López Gómez, Leticia Gómez López, Hermelindo López Gómez, David Francisco García Mota, Sergio Mar Pérez Santiago, Gumersindo Bustos, Jacob Hernández, Manuel Gómez, Sergio Rodríguez y Mercedes Pérez Pérez. Su paradero es actualmente desconocido.
